Soaking up local history is one of the best ways to get to know a community, and with history dating back to the Revolutionary Way, Spartanburg County is a great spot for history buffs.
Head to the Hub City Railroad Museum to see how the Hub City got its nickname, and stick around downtown and take the Historic Downtown Walking Tour to get a glimpse of the sites and buildings that have shaped the city’s history.
Grab an overstuffed chili cheeseburger for lunch at Ike’s Korner Grill, smack-dab in the middle or a former mill village, emblematic of Spartanburg’s one-time spot atop the textile economy.
Speaking of textiles, TextileTownTour.com shows you a business from the 1800’s that is still operating today, along with mills that now have a second life after significant changes in the industry. After getting a good night’s rest, head out into the county to check out Spartanburg’s significant role in the Revolutionary War at either Walnut Grove Plantation.
The historic site will take you back in time to learn life in the late-1700s as well as the important role Spartanburg played in the larger independence effort.
